Our
history commences with the partnership of Drs. Maurice S.
Rawlings, Sr. and William B. MacGuire who began their multi-specialty
practice of cardiology and internal medicine on February 1,
1953.

With
5 years of personal insight into the need for a multi-specialty
practice tied closely to proximate in-patient care, Drs. Rawlings
and MacGuire purchased a small section of an existing residential
area during the years 1958 and 1959 in anticipation of building
the first Diagnostic Center Clinic and Diagnostic Hospital.
The architect firm of Derthick & Henley drafted the architectural
plans and the physician group broke ground in 1960, with the
doors opening on both the Center and the Hospital in mid-1961.
In
just 5 more years, the physician group grew to a total of 10
physicians representing the specialties of pulmonology and cardiology
on a strong base of primary care physician group. That growth
spurred additions to the original building as early as 1962
with a second addition taking place just 4 years later in 1966.
The
hospital along with their practice continued to grow and became
the interest of larger hospital systems operating in the southeastern
region of the country. The hospital was sold in 1969.
The
group has now grown to the size of 15 physicians representing
the specialties of cardiology, endocrinology,
pulmonology, nuclear cardiology and a
strong base of primary care physicians.
As
a result of continued growth, on February 1, 1998, our group
moved into new facilities just down the street from our
old location. The new location at 2205 McCallie Avenue is
adjacent to HCA Parkridge and is a modern five-story medical
facility (100,000+ sq. ft.). Our 4th and 5th floors were
completed in 2003.
On
August 1, 2007, Diagnostic Center became an affiliate of
HCA Physician Services (HCAPS). HCA Physician Services implements
innovative, value added solutions that help physicians deliver
high quality, cost effective healthcare to support Diagnositc
Center's commitment to care and improvement of human life.
Our
Center offers the latest in medical technology and diagnostic
testing through our comprehensive clinical reference laboratory,
bone densitometry lab, pulmonary function testing laboratory,
nuclear cardiology and vascular laboratory, as well as the
convenience of our Coumadin Clinic on the 4th floor.
From
a historical perspective, it has and continues to be our commitment
to place the patient first at the Diagnostic Center.
